sun, aug 6th - mike, the FOOD CLUB friend, arranged a dim sum brunch for about 10 of us piggys that like to eat. the menu came in chinese and french, neither of which i can read so thank god he ordered for us... afterwards, a few of us sat next to the lake and chatted all afternoon. eventually we got hungry and went out for chinese again that night!spent the rest of the wk running around the Fete w/friends, and of course got no sleep. but it would have been bad form had i not tried maximize what little time i have left, right??? to protect the innocent, these photos will be saved for another time...
fri, aug 11th - every wed and fri for about a month there were free outdoor concerts in the Parc La Grange, so i tried to hit as many of them as possible. on this particular evening exphase was playing, and after seeing them in june at the Fete de la Musique, i'm a huge fan! so big a fan that i was willing to stand out in the cold, icky rain and risk pneumonia just to see them again. i'm so glad i went! uber good show!
they performed w/a drumming quartet and 2 violinists. it was nonstop rain and 50 degrees, but so worth it. the drummers were very cool and played just about everything: wok-type-thingys (or at least that's what they looked like), conchs, and even a bike tire pump (unfortunately not shown)...
following the show i went out for drinks w/my friends mike and hsein, and then made my way to the train station at 1am to meet nancy, a high school friend and my first piece of home since may...
