Paris - Part I
because i had to work over the wknd, i took some time off during the wk to get one last trip in. my coworkers suggested paris, since it is only 3+ hrs by train and kinda dumb that i had come all the way here and not gotten around to seeing it. so i went! here are some of the highlights...
one of my favorite things here was this display at the Ecole Militaire where peace is written in different languages, including korean at the bottom.
went thru the gardens at Invalides, home of Napolean's tomb. didn't go inside tho...for some reason i had no desire to see the remains of a crazy short man...
walked thru Place de la Concorde, which among other things, is a crazy intersection of one end of Champs Elysees next to the Louvre...
the Garnier Opera house...
the Conciergerie, landmark of the French Revolution and place where Marie Antionette was imprisoned...
and Notre Dame Cathedral. this was the 1st time i've ever seen modernized confession - soundproof booths built into a beautiful old church. the only problem is you can see who's been naughty thru the glass...
spent a lot of time wandering thru Jardin du Luxembourg, home of the Palais du Luxembourg and some of the prettiest flowers in Paris.
this place is huge, and was having a good time til i stopped at a map to reorientate myself. it was there that i was approached by a random older french man. he introduced himself in french as pierre, said he was on holiday, and asked if he could escort me thru the park. picture me minding my own business and being approached by steve buscemi's twin brother. SO CREEPY!!! i introduced myself in english as sophie, politely declined, and tried not to bust out laughing. then he proceeded to tell me his life story: he was from Nice or somewhere near there, on holiday in paris, and worked as a IT geek. i told him i had to meet my boyfriend at our hotel and was just looking for the exit. apparently it doesn't matter what country i'm in, I ATTRACT WEIRDOS!
