Chamonix
my visit to Chamonix was actually last sunday, july 23, but i've been running around again and am just getting around to posting this. sorry!
Chamonix is a cute little village an hour away on the france side of Mont Blanc, one of the highest peaks in europe. very big resort town w/mostly ski shops and hotels.
they even cater to the little asian tourists too! will let you practice your korean and try to read it...
my primary purpose for coming here was to see the mountain and ride a real cable car (i'm easily entertained). this is the view starting out. lots of trees.
cars even start to look small...
Mont Blanc, officially 4808 meters high, is huge. my naive self thot we could get there in 1 trip. no such luck. the first car takes you to Plan de l'Aguille, 2317 meters up. the town looked so small from here and we weren't even there yet, but we were close enough to see mountain tops and glaciers.
after about 10 mins, we boarded again and started going up. not everyone continued on the cable car cuz they opted to take the long way up. overachievers.
finally got to the top, sort of (will explain in a minute). it's amazing up there! everything else looks so tiny!
lots of people either climb up here or they climb down from here. in the winter when there's more snow, people ski down. i'm not that ambitious.
it was at about this point that i realized that i wasn't quite at the top yet. apparently you can cross over to another tower and take an elevator up even further to another observation deck. i eventually did and took this picture of the observation deck i WAS on when i realized i still wasn't there yet. city looks even tinier from the very top.
