Drama Of the Week

had lunch w/an ex this past wknd. we're still close after dating most of the last decade, which is why i was dumbfounded when he told me he's been seeing a chica for the last couple of months. WHAT?! we haven't dated in some time, but i was suddenly overwhelmed with a bit of shock and awe.

some background you should note, esp for you crazy fools overseas: despite the "ex" status, he and i are best friends and will likely be for life (or so i hope). i love him dearly, but we're on 2 entirely different paths so we know there's no getting back together unless some serious compromise happens. we share a lot, as friends should, including tidbits of our personal life (minus the slumber parties). and while i know he's seen other people in the past, this is the first time i've ever been given a name. normally i just laugh this sort of thing off and move on, but strangely this not-so-gossipy bit of info escalated into a morbidly huge beast i wasn't sure how to handle so i just smiled and nodded as he told me his plans to break things off w/her.

a couple hours later panic started to set in so i decided wine was the best way to cope. took a field trip to surdyks, a fabulous local wine/cheese shop in NE Mpls, and bought so much that the cashier said, "have you considered joining the wine club? after spending $250 we send you free stuff. might be a good idea for you." this, of course, didn't seem to be enough so i went to trader joe's and bought some more. i can now cater a small wedding.

the most frustrating part of all this is the odd feeling i have. i've never felt this way before, and i can't think of anything that helps (wine only worked temporarily). it's not jealousy, but more of a petty bitchiness. i don't even know her, and i don't like her. in reality i know she's a nice brunette, but i've also decided she's dumb, blonde, and missing a couple of teeth.

for whatever reason i'm having a hard time w/this one, but i don't know why. maybe it's cuz i got a name and that made her real. maybe it's who he met her thru (the matchmaker became an ass to me shortly after the breakup). or maybe it's just hard to realize he's completely over me and i'm now deemed replaceable.

or maybe it's cuz i thot we had agreed that he would spend the rest of his life alone and miserable, pining over me... *sigh*

thank you to:
  • jenny l. for listening to me bitch and moan and telling me i'm prettier than she is;

  • carrie for calling to see if i wanted a drink;

  • and todd for suggesting a much needed stop at Pizza Luces. i needed it.

isn't it strange how we react to that kind of news ?? i had exactly the same reaction when my ex said he would be moving in with 'marica'... the old heart missed a beat and it took all i had to save face - even though there was no getting back together and we just enjoyed a lunch every 3 months or so!!! is it just us girls or do the guys feel the same ?? comments, please !!

anyhow, just wanted to say, that blonde's probably missing a couple of teeth AND squints AND is missing a few neurones not to mention the limp..
there - you're the most prettiest and let noone tell you otherwise !!

luv you nat! i have a friend that said the blonde likely has bald patches too, but the limp tops that! lol!

why is it this sort of dramatic feeling seems to overwhelmingly happen to women more so than men? are we just that sensitive or are they just that dense? i vote dense. hee-hee :)

i must say though, i'm sometimes jealous of their skills in "getting over and moving on"....
