Open Mouth, Insert Foot

was in room 40 (local hang out for U of M public policy geeks) w/my friend andy after class, chatting about my new tandem partner i was about to meet. the conversation briefly veered towards the men i seem to be attracting nowadays -- intense, smothering, stare-at-you types -- when he said out loud about my new tandem partner, "let's hope he's not like L---" and laughed.

for those that don't know, L--- is a really nice guy i met shortly before xmas at a classmate's party. thot i had made a new friend (he's definitely NOT my type), but i was TOTALLY WRONG. eventually his persistent, methodical phone calls scared the crap out of me, but bridge-burning was out of the question. he may be socially inept, but he is a really nice guy AND buddies w/my classmate's boyfriend, so i opted to politely level w/him instead.

while L--'s business-transaction-type courting methods and borderline-scary focus did become something to laugh about, i gave specific instructions to those w/the inside scoop NOT to mention his name at school for fear of offending someone, particularly my classmate. andy was privy to such info, but violated it today just as she walked by...

THANKS DANDY!

this was clearly a classic moment of open-mouth-insert-foot, and as you can see, he's got a big foot (his mens size 14 vs. my women size 7). SO EMBARRASSING! i know i totally deserved it cuz i tend to laugh about other people A LOT, but rather than recognize this as a lesson learned and karma coming back to bite me in the bum, we just agreed to start using code names for people instead...
