FIRE!

my building was on fire today.

yes, that's right. ON FIRE.

woke up this morning to my alarm clock and the fire alarm BLARING. i, of course, was completely oblivious to the fact that my building was on fire cuz i've been sick w/a cold (my voice is so bad my boss told me i sound like a man) and took a bunch of medicine last night to help me sleep. in my uber groggy state i just assumed the fire alarm was someone else's alarm clock set REALLY LOUD so rather than doing anything, i just hit snooze and went back to bed.

i know, i know -- NOT TERRIBLY BRIGHT.

15 mins later i woke up again and got out of bed. went into the bathroom and started getting ready for work, and as i brushed my teeth i thot it strange that my neighbor wasn't hearing his or her "alarm." wasn't til i was in the kitchen packing my lunch did i realize that something might be wrong.

something you have to understand is that as of today, i've only been able to smell 2 things because of this cold:
  1. the kimchi i stuck in my boss's office yesterday when the sun was shining thru his window and warming the room, and
  2. the smoke from the fire.
it was about then that i put the pieces together... my apt started to smell like campfire, the alarm wasn't going away, and as i peeked out the window i could see a bright red fire truck 9 floors down.

damn.

i threw clothes on, grabbed my bag, and left the building. eventually went back in to get my car and go to work, and by then 1 of the 2 fire trucks had already left. turns out the drama happened on the 3rd floor on the opposite end of the building from me. i'm on the 9th floor, and w/roughly 150 apts inbetween us, i was amazed at how fast and strong the smoke carried. wow.

i'm fine, my stuff is fine, and the campfire smell was resolved after several hours and 2 open windows. the only loss for me was the extra sleep i was suppose to get after bowing out of a 7am mtg. woe is me...
