those who've had the unfortunate luxury of hearing me complain, know that i've devoted most of the last year of my life to preparing for a 1st-of-it's-kind conference at work. it finally happened this past wk and it more or less kicked my ass.
this annual event, which i've planned the last several years, usually involves a select group of operation leaders. this year they opted to expand it and invite over 200 engineers from around the world. in addition, we had a global safety forum and a multiple tech group meetings going on at the same time. i realize none of this means anything to you, but to me it meant spending every waking moment btwn 6am and midnight working for a wk in bloomington. it also meant staying overnight in a hotel 20 mins from my apt. the next few posts will highlight the hell i went thru.
SUNDAY: after working all day and getting an hour to myself to take a shower and pack, i arrived at the hotel in time to meet w/A/V and empty my car. after multiple meetings and getting our welcome social started, i finally was feeling a little more relaxed about the upcoming crazy wk (really, at that point what else could i do to make things better???) til i realized one of my key signs was missing. the hotel moved it when they weren't suppose to so i had to ask hotel security to dig thru the dumpster at almost midnight. fortunately my first crisis was resolved when one of the cooks found it in their kitchen unscathed and intact. have no idea how it got there, but it was obvious the rest of my wk was going to be the same way: momentary panic and hotel error at the most inopportune times...
