besides the fact that packing, unpacking, cleaning, hauling, and all the other things about moving SUCK, what might suck more is asking for help. i rarely do it cuz 1) you don't want to burden others, and 2) you get to find out who really cares enough to respond to your SOS.
maybe this is why we often ask our families for help: they're always there, and if they can't be, they at least tell you. i need help moving a bed, couch, and dresser cuz i can't lift them on my own, but my family (who is 90 mins away) isn't available til later next wk to help out.
so i turned to some friends in the area, figuring i could find at least 1 person in town willing to spare an hour of his/her life to help me on a holiday wknd. apparently i was right. yesterday i got 1 volunteer.
1 volunteer? talk about depressing! it's kinda sad to know that when you ask 30+ of who you consider to be your more "reliable" friends for help, that only 1 is able to lend a hand. tho maybe i should've expected that after i moved into my current home on my own: a complete stranger was the only one willing to help me lift my couch.
what might make this even MORE depressing is that 1 person even offered her mom to help. HER MOM. don't i have any friends out there anymore??? was feeling pretty crappy about the situation til today when i got emails from 2 more people.
this has brought me to the conclusion that:
- i have 3 friends in mpls, and
- i'm not going to subject the 3 nicest people in the world to lifting my crap so instead i'm going to pay a boatload of $ i don't have and let someone else do it.
UPDATE: need to add andy and heidi to my short list of friends. andy called to volunteer himself and his wife to help w/the move ("we're tough Iowans"). THANKS DANDY!

I would have helped you move! Not because I'm the nicest person in the world, but because YOU'RE the nicest person in the world for helping ME move! And since I would already be driving to Chicago, it would be silly not to drive all your stuff to Elephant Man's place, which is obviously you're new apt, right?
I miss you and thank you for all the nice comments you said in your previous post. I'm blushing all the way to my fat shoulder arms (which is nicely captured in that 2nd picture, thanks Hye! Now the world knows.)
Miss you!
Jenny
