The First 24 Hours

i've moved to a lot of apts, but this one takes the cake for issues upon arrival...
  • trying to get all our keys from the concierge at the front desk was like talking to the happiest doorstop there ever was. she was really nice and friendly, but obviously new to the job and didn't have a clue what she was doing. it took several tries and multiple requests for each individual item i was suppose to get (building key fob, apt keys, parking permit, etc). in the end, i walked away still missing stuff.
  • she also didn't have a clue where the loading dock was. she gave us the wrong directions and we had to figure it out ourselves.
  • a tube in the toilet was pointing out of the tank, rather than in, so it flooded the floor everytime we flushed our first night. thankfully it was flooding it w/clean water and todd was able to fix it before it got worse.
  • we attempted to upack, but found our pantry was missing shelves so most of our groceries had to sit on the floor.
  • the sink was slow to drain and the garbage disposal wasn't working (later learned some moron shoved a plastic bag inside it). at the same time, we noticed stinky yellow water filling the dishwasher (did i mention that this was suppose to be a new kitchen???). todd tried to drain the dishwasher by running it, but that just caused the slow-draining sink to fill up w/water. he couldn't get the dishwasher to turn off so he flipped off all the fuses to cut the power. unfortunately, 1 of the fuses didn't want to flip back on so we were w/o power in the living/dining rm for a while.
  • the only person to help at the time of all the kitchen issues was our favorite doorstop from the night before. talking to a real doorstop would've been more productive.
  • the concierge told me the leasing office was still opened so i took the elevator to the 16th floor and attempted to get help there. they were actually closed.
  • after pounding on the door for a while, an annoyed young man (not the person who we originally leased from) answered and said i had to either request help from the doorstop or come back during normal business hours. after he continued to be a dick and i started to walk away, he gave me a big annoyed sigh, said "FINE" and came downstairs w/me to the concierge desk. this turned out to be a big mistake since he ended up being an asshole.
  • while i complained about the issues, the annoyed leasing agent questioned whether or not i had even bothered to look at the unit before renting it, like i was some kind of idiot who should've expected what i got. i had to tell him that obviously i had otherwise i wouldn't have rented it, and that i was not expecting to be greeted by issues galore.
  • he also tried to point out that i was complaining about a brand new kitchen, to which i had to explain that i wasn't complaining about a brand new kitchen; i was complaining about the fact that no one bothered testing anything in the brand new kitchen after they installed it.
the first 24 hours sucked big time, and i already want to move. too bad i have 364 more days to go on this lease.
