Balance of Kenya Trip

despite the crazy bug bites and all the volcano issues, i managed to survive the wk in kenya. met some fantastic people who are putting in real effort to make change, and i'm excited to see what comes out of their plans. and despite all the stress and work leading up to the wk, i feel really lucky to have had the opportunity to participate!

the workshop took place at a lovely location just outside the city center, which looked like it came straight out of a movie.
unfortunately tho, i don't have any fun pictures of nairobi to share. the only time i got to leave the hotel was a short walk on the last afternoon w/my colleague annoek. we were told to beware of golf balls, but didn't realize we'd find chimps and dik diks too.the only other issue for the wk was on the way home. 3 of us were headed to the airport when 1 of my team members received a phone call from KLM saying that he had been moved to a different routing: nairobi to atlanta via dubai and JFK. obviously NO ONE in their right mind would opt for such a trip, but he was told by KLM that "the traveler had requested the change". needless to say he was pissed, but there was nothing he could do. we blamed it on the volcano.

we also blamed the volcano for cancelling another team member's return flight the next day. she confirmed it w/her travel agent before she left for nairobi, with the airline the day she was suppose to leave, and then got a rude awakening upon arriving at the airport. $2000+ later, she was on her way home...

gratefully, i had no problem getting home. and you know how much i like sleeping in my own bed!
