spent saturday afternoon at the polar plunge, a fundraiser for the special olympics minnesota. there were a number of people from work far braver than me participating, so i went to support. and when you're watching people willingly jump into a frigid lake, you cringe w/them!
for those that have never been to such ridiculousness, it's just as crazy as it sounds: they cut out huge blocks of ice from the lake, line up hot tubs, and set up changing tents. people dress in costume, jump in groups, and then run out of the lake and straight for the hot tubs. some even go in just speedos (we saw one dude w/nothing but a sock on and a flap covering his butt - SO GROSS! and this is a family event???). and all the while people like me donate $ to philanthropic fools who say they'll risk hypothermia for a good cause. obviously i'm not as cool as them.maybe i'll try it next year. or maybe not...
