this morning at work we had democracy & donuts, a town hall style meeting complete w/donuts and a political guest speaker. we've had everyone from norm coleman to paul wellstone to the governor. this morning's speaker was congressman jim ramstad (R), MN 3rd district.
and while he's technically republican, he's also socially moderate and an active voter across party lines. he's also retiring from office this nov after nearly 2 decades of serving his district so there's a lot to be admired. that, and he likes my cookies.
but before noshing on a frosted piece of yummy and hiding in the back to watch jim speak, i said hello to his staff. and because they know me thru john, his name came up a lot and what he's been up to.
if you live in the voting area or know someone who does, please consider supporting him and encourage others to do the same. i know he's always planned on running for the board, he's more than qualified, and he really wants it.
jim eventually got on stage and spoke. lots of passion around the mental health bill he coauthored with, among others, the late paul wellstone. really nice speech.
it's funny how i've never been a republican or supportive of the party, and yet they've been a part of my reality and i make them cookies.
it was a good session. i couldn't eat my donut. and i'm now making cookies for jim's office some time in the next few wks.
