Relative To the US, I Finally Found Something Cheap Here!

not a whole lot happened over the past wknd. have been spending all my time watching the world cup. what's up w/the US team today? Korea plays tomorrow, and hopefully this new dutch coach will be able to help them win! i'll be at work during the game, but maybe i'll get lucky and can sneak out for a bit in search of a TV...

when i wasn't watching the games, i did go out. finally saw the Jet d'Eau, a 19th century fountain originially built to relieve excess water pressure while a reservoir system was being installed. it was so popular, they decided to make it a permanent fixture in the lake. this thing is crazy. it shoots water 460ft into the air at a rate of 113 gallons/second and at a speed of 125mph. and at night it's all lit up.

besides walking around the lake, i went to a party at the Institut Universitaire de Hautes Etudes Internationales - Geneve (HEI) sponsored by the geneva intern network. they were hosting a little bbq for all of us lost souls that have no friends and terrible french language skills. met some very cool folks there who will hopefully forgive any misspellings (L to R): oskar (denmark), nick (australia), clea (switzerland), and jackie (canada). the first 3 are interning together and jackie is working on his masters in econ at HEI.
a fun fact i learned that evening was tuition for a full-time student at HEI is CHF1000/semester. that's like paying US$800/semester. think of how much $$$ i would save going to school here?! and their school is on the lake. in europe. why am i going to the U again?
