Apt Hunting - Day 2
first and foremost, happy birthday b! despite finals, i hope you got to enjoy it!!!in other news... i'm convinced i'm not going to find anything like my current home and in a reasonable price range.started out at the old ford factory, which has since been converted to lofts. it's a dump. don't go there.
then i went to a place near grant park, which is the first LEED certified condo/apt building in atlanta. and as cool as it was to see what you can make w/recycled concrete, non-toxic glue, and sustainable bamboo, it's ridiculously expensive and next to oakland cemetary, the block that never ends. seriously, this is the biggest damn cemetary i've ever seen. apparently the goths like to get married there. and for an arm, leg, and boob, you can have a home w/a view of it.
in addition to the recycled rainforest, i rolled thru my list of appointments and... disappointments. if a location was good, the place was a dump. if the place was clean, it was in a bad spot. if it was in a good spot AND clean, it was in the basement of some weirdo. and if it was all that w/a seemingly normal landlord, the laundry room was out back, down the fire escape 2 flights, on the other side of the building, and only accessible from the outside. i'd never be able to do laundry on a rainy day.
and if it couldn't get any more depressing, the scrolling marquee on my XM radio in my rental car got stuck on the name john for 2 hours.unbelievable, i know...still, it turned out to be an OK day. woke up this morning to some much needed encouraging words from overseas (thx e). then i stumbled upon ria's bluebird, famous for their pancakes (yes i ate them and yes they should be famous). i found a bar w/an awesome patio next to the cemetary called six feet under (totally wrong, and yet still funny). and i had dinner tnite w/nice strangers i met by email (thx ac for sharing your friends). i even ran into a former MURP in my hotel lobby (i dunno him but always saw him at HHH. i think he said his name is ryan anderson?).i'm trying to be optimistic and see what tmrw brings before i get tied up w/work in the afternoon and evening. going to 5 more places in virginia-highlands, poncey-highlands, cabbagetown, and little 5 (b - your friend was totally right. i heart little 5!). wish me luck.(top to bottom: bluebirds at ria's bluebird; some shops at little five points; stupid radio)
