Quarantine Checks

as i was saying...

upon arrival in tokyo, we couldn't de-plane right away. everyone's taking H1N1 very seriously (which i completely understand cuz no one wants an embarassment) so health officials had to come on board to review the questionnaires we filled out and to scan our body temps to see if anyone was feverish (and not admitting it). i wasn't too fazed at first, but then they told us to close the shades to block the sunlight for an accurate scan.

made sense, but still kinda creepy...

and then there were the people that came on board covered from head to toe in blue suits & masks...

occassionally a few passengers would walk by and be escorted off for further questioning, which didn't faze me. what did faze me was when a few masked health officials yelled something in japanese, and another few came running past me w/an individual thermometer.

my first thot: shit. i'm never getting off this plane.
my second thot: SHIT. i might not get out of japan.

as it turned out, a guy a few rows back had a cold, and everyone in the surrounding seats were being detained to go thru further health checks. they placed red stickers on all the seats they needed to rope off, stopping with the row just behind me. WHEW.

when we finally got to leave, we had about 15 mins to spare before our next flight, and originally we had 2.5 hours inbtwn. so for anyone traveling thru here in the next couple of wks, give yourself PLENTY of time to make your connections.

and now here i am, getting ready to start my day after just a few hours of sleep. oh the glamour of travel! (please read sarcastically!) think it's going to start w/some coffee and a healthy little walk...

you think that's something - we we're allowed to shake the dean's hand at graduation this weekend!

okay, your story is much, much scarier. mine is just ridiculous.
