Personal Artifacts

a proposal was presented to me this wk. it's everything i would want to do and more, but it's WAY over my head. told my boss about it, and he asked if i had a personal artifact.

what? no. the first thot that popped into my mind was why would i need one of those? he recently went thru a leadership course where he had to bring his own personal artifact and explain why it represented him.

me (looking bewildered): um, no.
him: that's OK. i found yours this wknd. come w/me to my office.

mildly curious and totally confused, i followed him to his office where he pulled out an old silver dollar from the late 1800s. it almost didn't look real.

him: why do you think that's your personal artifact?
me: cuz it's old and there's a lady's face on the front?

he laughed and gave me another minute to think about it.

him: it's you because it looks like metal, but it's really silver. and it says it's worth a dollar, but it's worth a whole lot more than that. now put it in your pocket so you don't forget.

thot i was going to cry. that was the nicest thing i had heard in a while. i said thank you, put it in my pocket and left his office.

later that afternoon when i was looking for some change, i reached into my pocket and the first thing i found was my personal artifact. held it in my hand and instantly felt good about my abilities all over again. i'm going to ponder it more this wknd and draft a potential job description, but i think i might be taking that proposal...
