Seattle

on thurs i found an uber cheap ticket to seattle, and since i haven't seen my undergrad friend bill in a while and didn't have any other plans, i ran off for a wknd visit.

since it was my first time in seattle, bill took me ALL OVER town. our first stop was fremont, an eclectic little place where all the hippies live. it's also home to ivy dinosaurs, vladimir lenin (this bronze version is GINORMOUS and weighs over 7 tons), and some bus stop people that periodically get dressed up but never get on the damn bus.
and then there's the troll under the bridge. HOW AWESOME IS THIS?! bill says it's a real VW under its hand too (and why wouldn't you believe someone who's got his hands up a troll's nose?). erick, i know you can appreciate this! lol :)

then we went down to the Chittenden Locks to watch the boats and salmon. the locks and dam were way cool! this huge tug boat was the first to come in...

and then a whole bunch of other boats joined...

and then they started sinking!

it's like magic!

or like a lock and dam system...

after lunch we walked thru the streets of the ballard seafoodfest...

...and the olympic sculpture park.

to give you an idea of the size of this cone, bill is 6'3" and the cone is obviously much bigger.

then we went to pike place market, home of the famous pike place fish market, a bunch of vendors, and the first starbucks ever (and yes, i made bill wait while i got a frappuccino)...
and after running around all day, we spent an hour or so people watching at the seattle center's international fountain. it was hilarious watching little kiddies run and in out of the water!

in between we ate yummy food, talked about music, and hung out at the nabob (one very cool bar).

definitely need to go back again soon! next time we'll go out to the mountains and go hiking :)
