upon arrival i got a map and headed into Old Town. this is Augustiner Church.
just a few blocks away is St. Peter's Church, the oldest parish in Zurich.

i kept walking along the Limmat until i reached the lake. at Burkliplatz, the port on Lake Zurich, there are a bunch of tour boats and really good views of the city.
the swans and ducks like it here too.
after people watching on the docks, i headed over to the other side.
there i found the local festival site, but apparently had just missed the party cuz this was all that was left...
fortunately the ice cream stand still remained so i got some movenpick (which is by far THE BEST ice cream over here) and wandered towards the Opera House. this place apparently boasts the highest number of opera permieres in europe as well as 1st class ballet.
after wandering along some narrow windy roads i found Grossmunster Church.
very pretty inside.
found this in Old Town. made me think of Gary. their shoes were almost as stylish as him.
nearby is a fountain on Spiegelgasse where Dadaism was born.
needless to say there are a lot of artists that live here, along w/shops, bars, and restaurants.
later on in the afternoon i headed towards the dolderbahn to go to Bergstation located in the hills of the east end of zurich. on my way there i got lost trying to find where to pick it up (go figure), but i did manage to find the Zurich-Hottingen Church that's currently undergoing renovations.
eventually found the dolderbahn and it took me straight into the hills of zurich (read: the hills are steep and i'm lazy and it was really hot out). it's bizarre. next to Bergstation is Zurichberg, a recreation area complete w/pools, golf, a skating rink, and LOTS of hiking trails. you're still within reach of homes, but it feels like you're out in the middle of the woods.
i chose to walk for a bit w/the intention of staying near city streets so i wouldn't get too lost. too late. i had no idea where i was for about 30 mins, until i came across FIFA headquarters.
tried taking a picture in the front, but it was under construction and the security guy made me go around to the back.
next door is the Zurich Zoo, but was too tired to go (sorry john - i know you said it was pretty cool so time permitting, i'll go back!). still, i did get to see the entire city from way up there.
after a couple more hours i found my way back to the dolderbahn, only this one was the sielbahn on the north end of the city (had not realized that i just hiked thru so much of it!). went down to civilization again and caught the next train back to geneva.still not sure where i'm going this wknd, but i promise to post a little faster!
